About Us

Marley's Pit Stop Rescue is a 501c charitable organization made up of volunteers dedicated to saving dogs of all kinds from unnecessary euthanasia and abuse.  The rescue gets help from many sources:

Volunteers help with the hard work of setting up and tearing down the adoption events, as well as walking, watering, and handling of the dogs during them.  Adoption events are held at various locations allowing potential adopters to meet and learn about the dogs.  Some volunteers assist with transporting dogs to the vet or other needed services, or just help by walking them, something of which dogs can never seem to get too much.  Others simply help get out the word about our dogs and our mission.

Fosters take dogs into their homes until a forever family is found.  This is basically having a dog on a temporary basis that can last days or months.  The fosters feed and care for them while teaching them what it is like to be in a safe loving home, which for many rescue dogs is their first taste of the good life they deserve.  Some times the foster decides to keep the dog.  This, of course, is a case of the dog training the human.  Either way, it's a success.

Local Veterinarians often offer their services at reduced rates to the rescue.  This is a key part of our organization, since rescued dogs often have health issues from abuse, accidents or untreated disease.  Usually they recover remarkably well from a little professional attention.  Unfortunately, this is also the most expensive component of the rescue process.  Most money donations are used for medical care and medicine.

Pet supply and pet services providers also pitch in with discounts and donated food, supplies, and services like leashes, collars, chews, toys, grooming, etc.  Still the vast majority of these items need to be purchased from donation money.

Pet Stores in addition to supplying the things listed above also often supply us a space to hold our adoption events which is critical.

Donors are the life blood that keeps it going.  Without money we simply could not save many dogs at all.  The volunteers are not wealthy enough to fund the rescue of these dogs.  We depend on donations and donors are the silent angels that make it possible.

People fill all these roles and most fill multiple roles.  People helping dogs find happiness and joy and getting it back double.  Maybe you want to be one.

Volunteers
We have many temporary ones, here are some of the regular ones getting caught in the act.

Marley's story (How Pit Stop Rescue was born) :

It was my second time to the pound - I saw familiar faces, but they seemed sad to see me.  I was being dumped because I ate a sofa, some shoes and part of the coffee table . . . just toys, you know?  Well, I guess I did something bad because I overheard them telling this prissy lady, they were going to have to put me to sleep.  I like a nap, why were they so sad?

The prissy lady said she wanted a German Shepherd, but that since I was so cute and the Shepherd had already found a home, she would just take me.  This lady had no clue . . . she took me directly to the dog park where I ran like a maniac, then to visit some dog cousins and then home to my favorite toys . . . 4 cats !

Some people told her I was a pit bull.  They seemed scared, but I always thought that I was just a dog ?  The prissy lady locked me in a bathroom and went on the computer, she was looking up "What to do when a pit bull mauls you"?  After about 3 hours, she let me out, introduced me to my feline friends, they were mean to me and finally she gave me something to eat.  I knew I was home, but she didn't and after about three weeks, I heard the news - I did find a home AND I got to start helping my Mom aka "Ms. Prissy" help other pit bulls.  She quit her job and started bringing home all kinds of playmates.  Now I always have a lot of foster siblings – little, big, young and old.  Every day is a play date!  By the way, Miss Prissy is still prissy, but only about us now.
